Villagonia Beach
Description
At the northern edge of Giardini Naxos, near Taormina, lies Villagonia Beach. This long stretch of pebble beach offers clear waters and a quintessential Mediterranean landscape. It's a quiet, relaxing spot with only two private lidos. The nearby public beach is also spacious and ideal for those looking to unwind away from the crowds.
Its position right on the border with Taormina makes it an easy stop if you're exploring both towns — many visitors combine a swim here with a trip up to Taormina's historic centre.
With only two small private lidos along its length, Villagonia keeps a low-key, uncrowded feel. Most of the beach remains free and open, with minimal services — pack your own umbrella and refreshments if you're heading to the public stretch.
Villagonia sits right next to Mazzarò, a short walk from the lower station of the Taormina cable car (Funivia), which whisks you up to Taormina's historic centre and Greek Theatre in a few minutes. Isola Bella is also close by along the coast.
When to Visit
Peak season: July–August (still calmer than the central beaches). Best weather: June and September. Off-season: May and October, perfect for a quiet swim. Being close to Taormina, it's a great base for beach days combined with sightseeing.
