Description
Etna Basic Tour from Giardini Naxos is a coach excursion to Europe's highest volcano, around 3,400 metres tall and a UNESCO World Heritage site since 2013.
The day unfolds in a few distinct moments:
First stop
The coach, with a tour leader on board, reaches Etna's base station at around 1,900 metres, where there's time for a light walk among the most recent lava flows.
Second stop
A lunch break or a snack stop at a local restaurant (at your own extra cost).
Optional upgrade
For those who book it online, a further ascent to the authorised crater zone at around 2,800-2,900 metres, with CAI-certified alpine guides. From a safe viewing area you may be able to observe activity from the summit craters, conditions and authorisation from local authorities permitting.
The coach heads back towards Giardini Naxos in the afternoon.
