Description
Etna Top Easy Tour from Giardini Naxos takes you up to the summit area of Europe's highest active volcano, at around 2,900 metres, then back down through a lava cave and on to the Alcantara Gorges.
The tour is arranged in several stages:
First stop
The climb up, either from Rifugio Sapienza on the south-east side by cable car and 4x4, or from Piano Provenzana on the north-east side by 4x4 only, depending on availability and conditions on the day.
Second stop
A short trek with a naturalist guide and a volcanology guide across the black ash fields to the base of the active craters, passing extinct craters and a close-up view of the central craters.
Third stop
Back down at around 2,000 metres, a visit to one of the volcano's lava tubes, followed by a light Sicilian lunch with drinks and local wine.
Fourth stop
The Alcantara Gorges, with a walk through the shallow river between basalt rock walls.
The itinerary can change depending on weather or volcanic activity, and the ascent to the central crater area is not always guaranteed.
Please note: confirmed departure with a minimum of 4 people. The tour may be cancelled after confirmation if there aren't enough participants.
