Etna Wineries Tour from Giardini Naxos

Etna Wineries Tour from Giardini Naxos is a full day out in the countryside north of Mount Etna, combining a walk through a medieval hill town with tastings at two local wineries, each paired with typical Sicilian food.

The day is arranged in three stages:

Castiglione di Sicilia

After roughly an hour's drive you reach Castiglione di Sicilia, a hill town above the Alcantara valley and one of the borghi listed among the most beautiful in Italy. You explore at your own pace: the old Byzantine castle known as Castelluccio, the “U Cannizzu” tower, cobbled lanes and a number of ancient churches. The viewpoint over the Alcantara river and its basalt rock formations is worth the climb.

First winery

Around 11.00-11.30am you arrive at the first estate for a tasting of local Etna wines, served with an aperitif of regional produce. You can stroll among the vines, see the grapes that go into the wine and hear how it is made.

Second winery

At lunchtime you stop for about two hours at a second cellar, where more Etna DOP wines accompany a full lunch of traditional dishes. A look around the cellar and the barrels where the wine ages completes the visit.
